Ever since the chart successes of their last two albums "The Liberation" (#45 German Album Charts) and "Ayam" (#35 German Album Charts), Disillusion have been among the heavyweights of German metal. For fans of the first hour, of course, they always have been. And fans of the first hour came in good numbers. Founded around singer and guitarist Andy Schmidt in the city of Zwickau in 1994, Disillusion pulled the rare trick of already becoming a staple in the field of avant-garde melodic death metal with the release of their full-length debut "Back to Times of Splendor" in 2004. A virtuous concept album showing the whole range of emotions. Touching, almost fragile moments, brute outbursts - the genre boundaries melt away and everything flows together congenitally in this epic masterpiece. On this record, Disillusion have shown what can be achieved dramaturgically out of brutal metal, creating an instant classic right at the beginning of their career. For its 20th anniversary, the band re-released the album as a remastered version by Jens Bogren and Fascination Street Productions with additional bonus and live tracks and embarked on a tour celebrating and playing the record in full.
The Germans have always been driven to seek new challenges and find new ways to evolve their music, which was exemplified by the followup "Gloria" (2006) that took radical musical steps in several directions at the same time. Gloria was far ahead of its time in terms of composition and sound, which becomes apparent when compared to GOJIRA's masterpiece "Magma" for example that came out a decade later.
Despite their early success, DISILLUSION took a creative hiatus until suddenly returning in 2016 with the single "Alea" and a new line-up that had changed in several positions. Quite likely even to the band's surprise, a large and loyal fan base had formed during the decade of their absence, which showed in sold out shows and a highly successful crowdfunding campaign to realize their two subsequent full albums „The Liberation“ (2019) and „Ayam“ (2022).
Ayam was the first record where Disillusion decided to leave the mix of the album to different ears than the bands' for the first time. Their choice could not have been better as renowned producer Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, MOONSPELL) once again worked his magic and enhanced their already unique sound by shining a sonic spotlight to the most important aspects such as the vocals.
Before the release of Ayam, the band embarked on a tour throughout Europe with fellow prog heavyweights Obscura and Persefone, visiting 13 European countries in a month. Praised for their excellent and highly energetic live performances, Disillusion was invited to play the 2024 edition of 70000 Tons of Metal in the Caribbean Sea in January, marking their first appearance overseas. The band will be heading to the American continent again later that year to play the renowned ProgPower Festival in Atlanta while playing several shows in Europe as well all the while preparing for their next release.
While seeking new musical frontiers, DISILLUSION again sail among the stars to new stellar constellations of heavy sounds. While staying true to their general course, the German avantgarde pioneers also continue to drop the anchor to explore new planets sparkling in space with a multitude of radiant sounds.
